Enhancing Patient/Client-Centred Care

Treatment of Individuals with Co-Occurring Substance Abuse and Psychiatric Disorders

Dr. Donald MeichenbaumDr. Donald Meichenbaum, a founder of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and internationally renowned consultant, specializes in the treatment of individuals with co-occurring substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. Homewood is enhancing capacity for seamless patient-centred care across all inpatient and outpatient programs. This requires a standard way to conceptualize cases. Dr. Meichenbaum’s Conceptualization Model, which provides a way of doing this, emphasizes identifying strengths in the people we serve, and building on these.

HRI has contracted with Dr. Meichenbaum to provide ongoing consultation to Homewood as we upgrade practices and move toward integrated patient centered care. To guide this work, a small core working group has been formed. The goal of the first phase is to have Dr. Meichenbaum assist us in developing and implementing the case conceptualization model he presented in June.
