Characterization of individuals receiving treatment for substance use and addiction

Formal Project Title: Universal assessment of patients in the Addiction Medicine Service at Homewood Health

HRI Investigators:
Dr. James MacKillop

Led by HRI and McMaster University, this project is exploring how specific clinical symptoms may be linked to an individual’s experience of addiction.

Researchers are working with patients in the Addiction Medicine Service at Homewood Health Centre with an aim to understand the distinctive features among patients that may predict the severity of their addiction symptoms and how well they respond to treatment. This study may also shed light on why patients drop out of treatment early and how the risks associated with premature discharge might be mitigated.
